Here is the official, full-length “Nightmares Never Sleep” spot from Nike/Jordan Brand. The commercial features Jordan Brand’s new face, Dwayne Wade and is not your average Jordan commercial. I dig what they did with this, especially the focus on Wade wearing Jordan’s signature shoe — considering he’s one of the best players in today’s game.
If you want to pick up the kicks, they drop next Saturday during All-Star Weekend.
It’s good to know that NBA fans halfway figured things out during the final weeks of NBA All-Star fan voting — they voted in Steve Nash instead of Tracy McGrady, who had the second most votes for Western Conference guards through the first few ballot returns. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the Allen Iverson memo, or maybe Nash was just more persuasive than the guards in the East.
Iverson is averaging career-lows with 14.4 points and 4.4 assists per game. He’s only played 19 games this season, bickered his way out of Memphis after three games and hasn’t helped the Sixers improve (6-10 with Iverson in the lineup).
Iverson should be glad that fans have showed their continued love for him, but if he had any class, he’d give his spot on the team up to a deserving player.
LeBron James has made some headlines this week, but not just because of the numbers he’s putting up, but because of the number he’s putting away.
In honor of Michael Jordan — who was on hand to watch James and his Cavs defeat Jordan Brand ambassador Dwayne Wade and his Miami Heat Thursday night — James plans to change his number next season.
James has worn number “23″ long before his NBA days, and of course, Jordan’s influence played a part in his choice of the legendary number. The star player announced that he will more than likely change his number to “6″ next season, stating that nobody else should be able to wear “23″.
It only took James nearly seven years in the NBA to realize this notion. Jokes aside, it’s a great notion and fellow “23″ Lou Williams of the Philadelphia 76ers agrees.
The season is young, so when I said that Pistons guard Will Bynum had the dunk of the year last night, I knew it wouldn’t last. Let’s not take anything away from Bynum, he was sensational, but Dwayne Wade just stole the show.
This dunk just happened moments ago, and the Cavaliers’ Anderson Varejao was completely embarrassed. That dunk should result in an immediate pink slip. It’s okay Varejao, at least your parents and WWE fans still love you.
Wade came to play tonight, and with Michael Jordan in the audience tonight, he is showing that he wants to be the new face of Jordan Brand.
UPDATE: Wow, I just watched this again and realized, holy crap, he sent Varejao into the freaking padding on the hoop. Seriously, flop on that buddy.
Jordan Brand hosted an exclusive event tonight in Miami, and “His Airness” was in the building, as well as Dwayne Wade. Wade is the newest member of Jordan Brand, after leaving Converse this summer.
The Air Jordan 2010 is the 25th edition of Jordan’s signature shoe, Wade will be the first NBA player to wear the shoe and plans to debut them at the 2010 NBA All-Star Game. The shoe will release that weekend.
It didn’t sound like Tracy McGrady was going to play again until sometime in early 2010, but Yahoo! Sports is reporting the seven time All-Star will make his return to the court next week against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
A few years back, McGrady was one of the best players of this generation, but injuries have derailed his career over the past few seasons. He only played in 35 games last season, 66 in 2007-08 and 47 in 2005-06. Last season, McGrady posted only 15.6 points per game, far below his career 22.1 per game average, but he was obviously playing injured.
After more than eight months of rehab, will we finally see shades of the McGrady of old? We’ve seen players like Antonio McDyess and Grant Hill bounce back after serious injuries, doing so well into their 30’s. I’m not sure if we’ll see the same player who once score 13 points in 33 seconds (like you’ll see in the video below), but hopefully T-Mac can stay on the court and help out the Rockets, who are off to a surprising 4-2 start.
Keep in mind, McGrady worked out with Tom Grover all summer. The same Grover who helped Dwayne Wade bounce back last season, along with Gilbert Arenas this season, in addition to many other clients that include Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
Khloe’s sister (the also pointlessly famous) Kim Kardashian went as Princess Jasmine for Halloween. Princess Jasmine is my favorite cartoon character of all-time (besides the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and let’s just say she pulled the costume off well.
