It’s Dwyane Wade, not Dwayne

March 11, 2010

This post will brief. I’m ashamed of myself.

For six years I’ve been spelling Dwyane Wade’s first name, “Dwayne.”

For nearly three years, I’ve been spelling it wrong on this website.

It’s spelled “DWYANE.”

I just realized this tonight. Maybe I should be angry at his mother for spelling his name that way, but for some reason, I’m just embarassed.

Whoops. I have a TON of editing to do on many of the 900 posts on this site.

Did anyone ever realize this when reading this site?! You could have told me, ya know…yikes!

Ummmm…my bad.

Someone made a Greg Ostertag tribute

March 11, 2010

If you search “Dwyane Wade” on YouTube, you’ll probably find a handful of tribute videos to different music, chronicling his amazing, yet young career. The same goes for Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Gary Payton.

One player you probably don’t expect to see a mix tribute of is former NBA center Greg Ostertag. Fortunately, thanks to the internet and amazing NBA fans, Ostertag mixtapes exist.

Ostertag made headlines for a brief second last year with talks of a comeback to the league, it obviously didn’t pan out, but you gotta give the big fella props. He might have looked like a dude you’d see working at a tractor store, but he had a solid NBA career and started for some very good Utah Jazz teams that made it to the NBA Finals in the 90’s.

Thank you Ron Artest

March 7, 2010

I just want to thank Ron Artest for always doing weird things and standing out. He’s not Dennis Rodman, he never will be, but he brings certain elements that Rodman did. He’s also a lot stranger and funnier.

For Sunday’s nationally televised game against the Orlando Magic, Artest decided to dye his hair gold and write “Defense” in purple lettering using Hebrew, Japanese and Hindi instead of English, because, well, he’s Ron Artest. Never expect less.

Artest isn’t having his best season by any means, but his team is winning and he’s been a model citizen on the court. His true value will be measured in the playoffs as the Lakers go for back-to-back, with Artest being the team’s big change.

Hair aside, the Lakers lost 96-94 as Kobe Bryant was unable to hit another game-winning shot.

Brook Lopez agrees, DeJuan Blair was robbed

February 13, 2010

When DeJuan Blair busted out the Rookie/Sophomore game’s first ever 20-20 game and posted a game-record 23 rebounds, it was obvious that he should have been the game’s MVP. Well, it wasn’t obvious enough, because the Kings’ Tyreke Evans took home the honors.

Evans is the clear front-runner for Rookie of the Year honors right now, and has been the league’s best rookie. Blair on the other hand has had some big games in San Antonio, and is a second-round draft pick in more of a role-player role on one of the league’s better teams.

When given minutes and full run, Blair has been great this season. Obviously other people know that Blair can play, especially after last night’s performance. The Nets’ Brook Lopez is one of those people. Lopez looks shocked, saddened, angry and distraught that Blair didn’t take the award.

Watch his reactions in the background, unless Craig Sager’s suit totally distracts you.

Steve Nash does Canadian Tuxedos

February 13, 2010

Steve Nash is absolutely ridiculous. If you read this blog, you know by now that the guy is hilarious. Next to Shaquille O’Neal, it’s clear that Nash is the league’s other top funny man — he doesn’t repeat his jokes and schticks all the time like Dwight Howard.

He’s fresh, original and he needs to be a bigger face for the league, even if he’s only got a couple more years left in him (granted he’s playing better than ever and could Brett Favre the league).

If you haven’t seen Nash’s antics in the past, go  hereherehere, here, here, here, here and here.

Where Camera Phones Happen

February 9, 2010

Over the years, changes in technology have really changed the landscape of the NBA. From getting a box score and up to the minute news, moving all the way forward to the Twitter era — where so many of the league’s players give peaks into their everyday normal lives, along with communicating with fans and giving away tickets.

Granted the camera phone has been around for about seven years now, it’s really had quite the impact on the league this season.

Just a few weeks ago, news broke that nude photos of Blazers’ center Greg Oden were making their way around the net. It was awkward news, and it was apparent that Oden was pretty embarrassed by the whole situation.

Unfortunately, it’s not over.

Spurs guard George Hill is now the latest victim of past camera phone mistakes.

In a statement issued by the team Tuesday, Hill said: “A year ago I made a mistake and take full responsibility for my actions. I have matured and learned from this episode.”

These two young players, obviously have some learning to do. If you want a girl to send you nude pics, and you’re in the NBA, you’re probably not going to have to return the favor via MMS. If a regular guy can get away with it, an NBA player should have no problem with this.

Luckily, a veteran like Juwan Howard is smart enough to know he shouldn’t be pulling a Vanessa Hudgens — at least I hope so.

If you want to see the pics, Google them, cause you won’t find them here. Sorry ladies.

Hey jerks, Mark Eaton is serious

February 6, 2010

Child abuse is a very, very, very serious issue. Mark Eaton is a very, very, very serious man. So having the 7-foot-4 monster in a commercial to scare off child abusers was a great idea, even though it’s kind of funny in an awkward way.

Again, don’t think I am laughing at the issue of child abuse — I’m just laughing at Eaton, especially now since this is what he’s doing, after his retirement from blocking shots.

Kobe Bryant makes Rudy Gay pay

February 2, 2010

I don’t know what Rudy Gay was thinking, but he was obviously fairly excited or not thinking at all here. Of course, when you make a mistake against the Lakers, Kobe Bryant or one of his talented teammates will make you pay for it.

This was just three of the 44 points that Bryant scored yesterday, as he became the Lakers’ all-time leading scorer, passing Jerry West (who coincidently wore the number 44) — tribute? Maybe. Kobe did pass on the final play of the game instead of taking the shot.

Luckily for Gay, the Grizzlies still pulled out the surprising victory.

Mike Woodson shaved his eyebrows

January 26, 2010

The Atlanta Hawks hadn’t won a game in Houston in over a decade, 1999 to be exact. Last night, all of that changed as the Hawks beat the Rockets, 102-95. As big of a win as it was for the much improved Hawks, it wasn’t the big story coming out of Houston.

Hawks head coach Mike Woodson, for some reason or another, has shaved his eyebrows. It was bad enough that he shaved his head awhile back, but the eyebrows just take it to another level. The best part about all of it is, he won’t discuss why he did it and he also wore fake eyebrows that Josh Smith made for him before the game (who said that Smith/Woodson had beef?)

For more on this incredible story, check out Lang Whitaker’s article over at Slam.
